I'm in Love! I'm in Love! And I Don't Care Who Knows It!

I know. It's pretty sudden. We only met on Christmas Day, so I'm being a little impetuous. I KNOW that I'm in love. When you know, you know, right? We have been together constantly since Christmas because he traveled with me from Sacramento to Utah. It's been spending all his time in my apartment while I studied, started my externship, etc. You might be asking, "Why haven't we heard of this love before?" Well, I just recently took it out of its box. (Oh my gosh. I just read this again, and it sounds like some kind of sex toy. Please don't read it like that! hahahahahahaha)

It's German, and its name is Wusthof. Yes, I am talking about my new knife. I've only used the one so far, but I LOVE IT. These were my big Christmas present from my parents. Le sigh. Here's a random picture I found of my knives. It's a beautiful thing.

Now you might be thinking, BN, who are you? Why are you talking about your love affair with knives? Well, I love to cook. I've talked about it before. I just LOVE it. But I haven't loved it as much because my knives suck. I now know what I was missing. Cooking is completely different. Chopping onions into small pieces was the easiest thing I've ever done.

I just want you all to know how much I love my knives. I recommend getting good knives. It has made my cooking experience completely different. The only bad thing now is that if/when I get married, I will have my entire kitchen already set up! I won't need anything. Oh well. I looooveeee them.

My knives suck. One Man JA Henckels. I have ONE Two Man JA Henckels knife, and it is a really big deal to me--so I COMPLETELY understand your love and am envious of your possessions.

I can completely understand. The best part of our (rented) house is the set of knives our landlord left behind. Bliss!

I have 2 Cutco knives and I never realized how crappy my other knives were until I got these! I need more.

I know...sharp knives are definitely exciting. And they are much more reliable than a man, I'm afraid. If the knife becomes dull you can hone it into ideal performance again. A man--sadly resists honing. I know. I've tried.

I love my knives. My dad made most of them, but I have a couple of cutco knives, too. Lovely. They do make a huge difference in my desire to cook.

I want 'em. I love knives. LOVE.

well, if/when you get married, people can just give you money.

I have never understood people's fascination with knives. I like to cook, but I guess I'm not a chef.

So I can now blame my lack of desire to cook on my crappy knives? Awesome.

hahaha yes, Genavee, yes. I laughed so hard at that.

I am in the market for new knives...the ones I have don't cut a blessed thing. I'll have to check these ones out. Were they frightfully expensive?

you love to cook!!? that's so awesome, because I really hate to cook and most likely it's cause I'm really bad at it. and it's also probably because my husband is basically a pro chef, so i feel ridiculous even trying to cook stuff for him, cause it never is that good. I'd much rather clean house than cook. I like cleaning and I'm good at it. maybe I should get this knife set and maybe my cooking skills would end up being amazing.

We finally got a nice set of knives last Christmas. Before that we did all our cutting with crappy steak knives. Not fun.

Agreed. Wusthof has changed my life. Even Graham talks about them to other people.

Someday, I wish for super knives, expensive ones that make me feel like Giada on the Food Network. Right now I'm working it with the Kitchenaid pink ones (support cancer awareness, yo) but they are 3.5 years old and getting dull. Even sharpening them doesn't do much.

I used crappy knives for so many years. My husband gave me a set of Furi knives a couple of years ago and they have totally changed my world.

My roommate is a culinary student and he's got the crazy expensivest knife collection ever. I just know one day I am going to lose a digit. But you're right. They do make ALL the difference in the kitchen!

I have knife envy!

A good knive is hard to find.

Better hold on to him.

I am so grateful this was about knifes.
My roommate "fell in love" over Christmas break, and never talks about anything else. If this post was more of that, I was going to puke.
And I also love good knifes and cooking. We should be friends. Except we could never cook together. I do not share the kitchen. ever.

OMG you and Jim are soul sisters. Well, not sisters.... This is a post he would write. He LOVES knives (in a healthy, "I like to cook" way, not a scary serial killer way), loves to cook, and generally loves everything kitchen related.

BTW, everybody who wants to feel really smart should read about the latest house f-up on my private blog. Don't have an invite? Leave a comment on cjstutz.blogspot.com and I'll send you one. Seriously, I have this bizarrely perverse need to share my pain (and stupidity).

I only have one good knife. And I use it over and over. I'm glad you are in love!

Oh man, I totally know how this is. When I first got married we didn't have knives, so I had to use butter knives to try and cut everything, and it sucked so much. Then we bought a knife set from Ikea and I love love them! A good knife really does make a difference. I am glad you found your love.

I can honestly say I didn't expect this many people to comment on my knife post. hahaha I'm glad people understand the need for a good knife though.

Oh and Tiffy J., I recently learned how to share the kitchen. It was hard. I'm still very protective, but I'm able to let others chop onions or something. I totally get what you mean. What if they do it wrong?!?

I'm so jealous! SO JEALOUS.
I have a set of three KitchenAid paring knives, and they are my favorite. And I need more, because all my other knives are cheap cast-offs.

I LOVE NEW KNIVES! I find myself looking around for things to cut when I have a new one. Thats right I am a cooking lunatic!

I really could have used those knives yesterday when I was trying to cut bacon.

OH MAN. I just started working at a Housewares store recently, and we sell Wusthof! UH-MAY-ZING.
I bought my parents some super swanky CIA Knives (Culinary Institute of America....not the super secret government organization haha) for Christmas though, and they're pretty fab as well!

I can't wait til the day I can afford Global knives though. They are SO pretty: http://www.allianceonline.co.uk/product_category_images/Global%20Knives%20CATEGORY%20Lifestyle.jpg

Yay knives!
